World's First Fragrance Free Suncare Mist
Choosing a sunscreen mist offers several compelling benefits. Extensive research highlights the importance of easily reapplying sunscreen for maximum effectiveness, as SPF50 protection diminishes after 90 minutes. Dermatologists recommend applying sunscreen as the final step in your skincare/makeup routine to optimize its absorption and protect your skin. Our sunscreen mist provides a convenient and effortless application method, resulting in increased usage. Studies demonstrate that when sunscreen is easier to apply and reapply, individuals are more likely to use it consistently, thereby reducing the risk of skin cancer and premature aging caused by UV exposure. The TGA has verified the delivery technology of our mist application, ensuring full coverage and effective protection.
With our commitment to offering high-quality sunscreen mists, we aim to encourage regular and effective sun protection practices, ultimately leading to healthier and protected skin.
As humans, we all have individual and unique skin tones and sensitivity. We at Olivia Rae have taken this into account to realise there is no one-product-suits-all when it comes to what ingredients do and don’t work for us.
If you have previously noticed a sensitivity to new products and currently have a fragrance-free routine, this is the product for you.
Our ‘Fragrance-Free’ option is like a gentle kiss for sensitive-prone skin. Faceshield II is highly recommended for all sensitive-skin individuals. It has been tested and trialled to give no reaction to individuals with sensitive skin.
NOTE: Always patch test before use, and if symptoms persist, please stop using the product and contact a medical professional.
In a 12-week consumer study with 32 participants (aged 25 - 55) using FaceShield II.
Faceshield & BodyShield are SPF50 Broad Spectrum protection.
The SPF number * indicated on the bottle indicates how long the sun’s UV radiation would take to redden your skin when using the product exactly as directed versus the amount of time without any sunscreen. So ideally, when using our SPF 50, it should take you 50 times longer to burn than if you weren’t wearing sunscreen.
Broad Spectrum means it protects from UVA / UVB rays.
UVA = ageing rays, & UVB = burning rays.
While most people associate sunscreen with preventing sunburn (by UVB rays), it's important to remember that UVA rays are present throughout the year at the same intensity (even when it's cloudy), and the damage caused is not immediately visible. UVA ray damage will slowly but surely accelerate most of the signs of ageing, such as pigmentation, loss of elasticity, rough skin, dryness, etc. See more on how UVB and UVA affect your skin.

The Australian Cancer Council recommends that all sunscreens should be reapplied every two hours no matter how high the SPF rating is. That's why we created a mist for easy re-application. Not so easy with regular sun creams and a full face of make-up!
No sunscreen is completely waterproof. Please note, for any sunscreen that states it is water-resistant, it is still imperative you re-apply every two hours and especially if you are swimming or sweating.
Our Faceshield is designed for everyday application rather than 10-hour days at the beach. Please note, for any sunscreen that states it is waterproof or water-resistant, it is still imperative you re-apply every two hours and especially if you are swimming or sweating.
Australian-made sunscreens are the most regulated and most effective in the world. All primary sunscreen sold locally must comply with the strict TGA standards and be produced within a TGA-approved facility. According to the Cancer Council, "About two in three Australians will be diagnosed with skin cancer by the time they hit 70". Australia is known as the skin cancer capital of the world. This means that sunscreens with SPF 15 and higher are held to higher standards than cosmetic products, with strict requirements for testing, manufacture, quality control, labelling and reporting of side effects. Whereas, in most parts of the world, sunscreens are treated as regular cosmetics with fewer requirements. Dr Cook stated that the SPF claims on some overseas sunscreen products are "garbage". "Some of the laboratories in the US that do the SPF testing have been investigated for fraud." The extreme testing standards in Australia ensure all sunscreens are not misleading and are 100% safe from the sun. Whereas in the US and UK, the testing is minimal, allowing people to make up claims. It's always better to buy and use an Australian-made and tested SPF than one made and tested overseas.
If you are in direct sunlight, indoors or outdoors, you need to apply and reapply sunscreen every day, no matter what. Even if it's rainy or cloudy, this is because the clouds or rain don't block the harmful UVA and UVB rays from penetrating your skin. The same applies if you are in your car, at work, or walking to the post office, the UVs will penetrate through. According to the Skin Cancer Foundation "Even though you may feel cooler on a cloudy day, your skin will still absorb a majority of the UVA and UVB rays,". The bottom line is never to skip sunscreen, regardless of the weather or what country you live in. Suncare is self-care. See our dermatologist speak about it here.
FaceShield was formulated to complete your routine but designed specially to keep close to you.
Dermatologists recommend sunscreen to be the last step in your skincare/makeup routine and reapplied every two hours.
Directions are as follows: Shake well before use. Hold the bottle 20cm from the face, close your eyes and spray 5 - 7 times to ensure full coverage. Wait 5 seconds to set before opening your eyes. Re-apply every 90 minutes.
Dr Shreya answers this question here.
Yes, our mist is safe to use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. However, please consult with your doctor before starting any new skin care regimen or if you have any concerns.
Long and short answer: Hell no. Think of SPF in makeup as a bonus.
Dr Shair Sperling explains, "it’s unlikely most people are applying enough makeup to get the marketed SPF. In addition, there are areas like the neck and ears that may be missed with this approach". Olivia Rae's dermal technician explains here why makeup SPF isn't enough.
We aren't saying ditch the cream, but we are saying if you are like us, on the go, always in a rush, our mists are the most luxurious, most effective, and the easiest way to apply and re-apply sunscreen throughout the day.
And the best part is that our mist is a multitasker, meaning if you aren't feeling great, a spritz will leave you with a brightening, dewy glow - a welcome added confidence booster! On your way to work, on the train, in the car, at your desk, walking, dancing, no problem - Faceshield has you covered (literally) anytime, anywhere.

Here’s the short version:
1. Sun damage is the biggest cause of premature ageing.
2. Sunscreen makes the rest of your skincare routine more effective.
3. The reasons you don’t like wearing sunscreen disappear when you find the right product.
4. Staying out of the sun is always your first line of defence to protect your skin from cancer, wrinkles, pigmentation, dark spots and overall ageing.
You should also make sure to wear protective clothing, sunglasses, and hats while you're outside. The cancer council explains here the importance of sun protection, especially in Australia.
Using a high SPF just once a day isn't going to cut it. Dr. Yuan explains, "SPF numbers are based on how much the sunscreen will block UVB rays from damaging your skin over two hours. After that, the effectiveness of the protection decreases dramatically,". This leaves your skin vulnerable to overexposure to harmful UV rays.
"Always re-apply sunscreen every two hours while you are exposed to the sun," says Dr Tony Yuan, MD and board-certified physician at Doctor On Demand. Lastly, always opt for a broad-spectrum sunscreen, as it will effectively protect your skin from both UVA and UVB rays. Please note SPF should be applied 20 minutes before going outside.

Note: There are two basic types of ultraviolet rays that reach the earth’s surface—UVB and UVA.
UVB rays are responsible for producing sunburn. The UVB rays also play the greatest role in causing skin cancers, including the deadly black mole form of skin cancer (malignant melanoma). There are approximately 500 times more UVA rays in sunlight than UVB rays.
UVA rays also play a role in skin cancer formation. In addition, the UVA rays penetrate more deeply into the skin dermis and play a greater role in premature skin ageing changes, including wrinkle formation (photoaging).
Due to the application of the product, it's more likely to get into your eyes, so to avoid any issues or pain, please do not use our suncare product if you have sensitive eyes; however, please enjoy our other products, which are coming soon!
Our motto is, use sunscreen whatever it is that you will reach for every day and reap the benefits - that is what's important.
There are advantages and disadvantages to mineral and chemical sunscreens, and different people will have different priorities when finding the right product.
The main advantages of chemical (organic filters) sunscreens are:
Chemical sunscreens are able to provide highly effective protection without necessarily needing to be in high concentrations.
They generally have nicer textures and are invisible on the skin (if your skin is darker, you still want to apply enough sunscreen!).
Chemical sunscreens ensure the most effective broad-spectrum protection from both UVA and UVB rays. This is vital as, while many people understand the risk associated with UVB rays; However, UVA rays, which cannot be felt – represent 95% of UV rays on the earth’s surface. They penetrate more deeply into the skin and play a significant role in accelerating premature ageing. It is essential to protect against both types of ultraviolet rays, as lack of protection over time can lead to deterioration in the skin cells, irreversibly damaging the DNA, and potentially leading to the development of skin cancer.
Here is a link to our formulator explaining why people shouldn't be afraid of the word “chemical sunscreens”. Don’t be fooled as when sunscreens claim to be physical /zinc-based and have a smooth, lightweight texture, this means they have used chemicals to make it like that. So basically, there’s no difference.
Don’t be fooled; most “zinc” sunscreens have all the same chemical properties as chemical (organic filer) sunscreen. As well, Please note that sunscreen is probably the only skincare product that is most tested and regulated, meaning you can be sure that every ingredient is sunscreen is the safest to use. Whereas the skincare products you use as well have similar properties but are not tested to the same standard.
The main disadvantages of chemical sunscreen are:
Some chemical UV filters have been known to cause allergic reactions and irritation in sensitive skin. However, most modern formulas contain antioxidants to safeguard your skin’s health, now and in the future. Our FaceShield II is your best option if you have sensitive skin.
The main advantage of mineral sunscreens are:
As they are usually thicker and whiter than a chemical sunscreen formula, it is easy to see where physical sunscreens have been applied and when they have rubbed off. This helps ensure sensitive areas are covered and protection levels better maintained.
Physical UV filters are growing in popularity, as they can be less irritating for sensitive skin than certain chemical filters.
The main disadvantages of mineral sunscreen are:
Physical sunscreen is often heavier and thicker on the skin than a chemical sunscreen with the same SPF.
Therefore, physical sunscreens might not be the best choice for oily or acne-prone skins.
Additionally, mineral actives alone often offer less protection from damaging UVA radiation than chemical filters.
See our chemist explain the details here.
Fragrance-Free:
Fragrance-Free means that no additional fragrances have been added to the formulation to make the product smell a certain way, or mask the scent of the ingredients the product contains. This means that the product may still have a scent, but just from the ingredients it includes.
Unscented:
Unscented refers to a product which may have had masking scents added to it, in order to try to create a formulation which doesn’t smell like anything. These may contain synthetic fragrances and phthalates.
Our Suncare mists have been through 2 years of SPF Testing to ensure it provides full coverage protection. The delivery technology of the mist is highly examined and studied to ensure that once applied the sunscreen can protect from sun damage.
Keep in mind that while crucial, sunscreen alone is not enough. Seek the shade whenever possible, wear sun-safe clothing, a wide-brimmed hat and UV-blocking sunglasses, for a complete sun protection strategy.
Yes, all our products are TGA approved. This is a significant achievement as the TGA's stringent approval process ensures the highest level of sunscreen safety and effectiveness. When using a sunscreen with an AUST L number, you can be confident that it has undergone rigorous testing and meets the TGA's strict guidelines for protection. It's essential to be cautious with overseas sunscreens, as they may not adhere to the same testing standards and could have unreliable SPF claims. Trust in our TGA-approved products for 100% protection you can rely on.
